October brought Sharon Green back to her Canadian roots for an unforgettable few days in Halifax—a celebration of sailing's rich history, a gathering of family and friends, and a visit to one of Canada's best-known marine chandleries.
A Place in Canadian Sailing History
On October 4, Sharon was officially inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on Halifax's waterfront.

Recognized alongside athletes, designers and major contributors who have shaped Canada's sailing heritage, Sharon was honored for more than four decades of extraordinary photography documenting the sport's speed, beauty and evolution.
The occasion carried special meaning. Sharon joined her late father, Don Green, who was inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame in 2018, making them the first father and daughter to receive the distinction. It was a milestone Sharon had never imagined they would share.
Family, friends, and colleagues traveled to Halifax for the celebration, where Barbara Jones delivered a heartfelt introduction tracing Sharon's life and career.
Reflecting on the occasion afterward, Sharon wrote:
"Sailing has given me an extraordinary life — incredible adventures, lifelong friendships, and nearly five decades of chasing that next great photograph."
Don Green was inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame in 2018, eight years before his daughter Sharon joined him.

Among those celebrating with Sharon was Chris Shaw of The Binnacle, who welcomed her to the Halifax store the following day.
A Visit to The Binnacle
Founded in 1976, The Binnacle has been serving Canadian sailors for fifty years. What began as a marine supply business has grown into a 9,000-square-foot, two-floor chandlery on Purcell's Cove Road in Halifax, stocked with everything from charts, nautical books and marine electronics to rigging, safety equipment and boating supplies.
Chris Shaw and business partner Robert Dempsey took over The Binnacle in the early 1990s, but their connection goes back further. The two raced together aboard a C&C 41 beginning in 1984. Their experience on the water became part of the foundation for a business that now serves recreational sailors, commercial operators, and Canada's marine industry.
The Binnacle was also ahead of the curve in online retail, launching Binnacle.com in 1999. Today, the store reaches customers across Canada while remaining firmly rooted in Halifax.
Sharon's visit was a chance to catch up with Chris, explore the store and meet the team behind the business.
"It was a real pleasure to be there for Sharon's induction and then have her visit us at the store," says Chris Shaw. "We've carried her calendars for years, and it's great to be taking on a larger role in getting them to sailors and retailers across Canada."
